El Calafate

located in Santa Cruz province in Argentine Patagonia
on the shores of Lago Argentino

The next stop on our journey was El Calafate, a quiet, pretty town located on Lago Argentino, a beautiful blue-green colored lake set among the purple mountains of Patagonia under the blue sky. We arrived mid-afternoon (siesta time) and decided to explore by heading down to the shores of the lake. First we passed Laguna Nimes, where you can see horses, various birds, and flamingos! The setting is isolated, yet magical, and I definitely had a chance to commune with nature. :P El Calafate gets a lot of visitors because it is the closest village to the Parque Nacional Los Glaciares (National Park of the Glaciers), 80km from Glaciar Perito Moreno; the lake is colored this way due to the minerals from the glacier.
