Laguna del Diamante

a remote lagoon and volcano in the province of Mendoza

Towards the end of my stay in the city of Mendoza, I took a long trip out to the Laguna del Diamante, a beautiful blue lagoon near Volcán Maipú. The "Diamond Lagoon" is so named because at certain hours of the day, the reflection of the volcano looks like a diamond. You can only visit this beautiful location during the summer months of January, February, and early March due to the bad weather that plagues this area of the Andes. You make the trip along neverending roads, but the time is worth the breathtaking scenery.
