The last stop in my December 2001 trip, Ushuaia is the most southern city (populated by civilians) in the entire world. (Chile has a military post located more southward.) This is the departure point for trips to Antarctica for that reason. Aside from its tourist value as having the southernmost train in the world, etc., Ushuaia is near the Beagle Channel and various habitats of wildlife. The weather is unstable and can change at any moment, as you can tell from the photos. It's a very relaxed city with some interesting scenery. The trees and plants are notorious for their sturdy nature: not only is it cold down here, but the winds are strong and trees grow sidewise. (11 photos) |
